VERY URGENT - Bandit needs a petless foster home - short term or long term.

Bandit was just rescued from a severely neglectful situation and he needs a roof over his head! Our problem is that while he undergoes treatment for skin mites (not contagious to humans!) and a skin infection, he needs to be kept away from other dogs and cats. We don't have a foster home without other pets! If you can help Bandit, please contact us at info@boxerrescuequebec.com - thanks for reading!

Please consider giving Lucas a loving retirement

Lucas was rescued from being put down because after 8 years with the same family, they no longer had time for him. He is playful, social and great with kids. He had a few lumps removed by our vet and it turned out he had two mast cell tumors. The vet removed the one on his leg and one in his ear. We thought he was going to have to have his ear amputated. Luckily, the vet saved the ear. Lucas is looking for a compassionate and loving family where he can retire in peace, with love and a very comfy couch. Please email us with any questions.

Are you looking to adopt a young, handsome and vibrant boxer boy? *Update* Boomer is now with BRQ!

Boomer is a very handsome, large 15 month old boxer. While outside he loves to play with the other dogs like a big puppy and while inside he is calm and loves to chew on his bone or sleep on the couch. He is full of wiggles when the kids come home from school, happy to see them. He is great on walks with his harness or gentle leader. He shows no real interest in dogs we pass along the way (and so far has no interest in our cat). He doesn’t seem to be a digger or a barker, but on the occasion he does bark, it’s a deep “stay out of my yard” bark. He likes to snuggle on the couch or just hang out on his own. At night and during dinner we put him in his crate and he doesn’t complain. With younger dogs he is a playful puppy and with older dogs he shows respect and is submissive. Although we were told he is a jumper, we haven’t witnessed this behaviour yet. He is learning to share with his foster brother and sister dogs ;0)

Rest in peace darling Earl

We recently lost a very dear BRQ boxer, Earl, loved by Kim and Brian. RIP Earl - you were one funny guy :0) Here is a little note that his mom Kim wrote about him:

Earl came to us as a foster with BRQ. The moment I walked through my door with him, he tried to chomp on one of my cats running by the door. I said uh oh, this is gonna be fun! We had a 14 y/o boxer mix, Roxy and a 5 y/o great dane, Moose at the time. Just a few hours after arriving home with him we had to rush Roxy to the vet. She became very ill extremely quick and we had to let her cross the rainbow bridge. Before she closed her eyes to sleep, it was like her eyes told me it was ok to have Earl take her physical place. Shortly after he came to us we learned he had a disease called Megaesophogus. After reading a little about it we decided he was meant to be with us, so we decided to adopt him. Although he was 9-10 y/o, he was the feistiest senior we had ever met! He did not mess around when it came to play time. He broke countless dishes, he bent pots and pans, cupboards, garbage bags...and not to mention the cuts he gave to brian from rough play! but we would take one look at him, and those big brown eyes and that little stump tail would wag and he sucked us right in and forgot about all the damage he just caused. As tough as he was he gave the sweetest kisses and was such a good cuddler! All the dogs he beat up and all the places we had to avoid with him, it made us love his cranky butt even more. It was not easy having a mega-e dog. A lot of work, sleepless nights, TONS of drool and plenty of vomit piles to clean up. However with all that work, Brian and I would do it all again. We grew to love him so much in the short year and a half we had him and we have such a big hole in our heart for him. The only peace of mind we get with him gone is knowing he isn't suffering anymore and he can eat and drink all he wants now! I love and miss this beautiful boxer so much and I so hope he's romping in the grass and eating all the chicken he wants!

Meet Rose

Meet Rose. Not all of our rescues are from puppy mills or backyard breeders. Rose is from a show breeder and has champion bloodlines. Despite this, Rose has not led a happy and pampered life. Her first owner broke the contract with her breeder by giving her away when they no longer could care for her. When the second owner had no time for her, they gave her away once again. Her third owner put her up for sale on an online classified site, because they were in an apartment and could not have her barking anymore. This is where her breeder discovered her. The breeder contacted BRQ because they had no room to take her back in themselves.

We were told that Rose has mild separation anxiety (totally normal for a young dog that has been moved three times in 2 years!) and was good with other dogs. Luckily we had a new foster home ready to take her in. When we got Rose in we discovered that she had been *severely* neglected. Our vet was appalled at how skinny she is, her nails are way overgrown and some were even split right up into her toes because no one had cared to keep them trimmed. The next thing we discovered is that Rose is actually not good with other dogs - this really put us in a difficult position because our only available foster home already has two dogs. After her evaluation with our canine behaviourists, Rose will be looking for a foster home with no other pets. Rose has not only been physically neglected but she is also a very nervous girl and needs to learn to trust humans again. Therefore we are also looking for a foster home with no young children, a foster home that has time to devote to rehabilitating Rose with the support of our professional positive reinforcement dog trainers.

If you might be interested in helping Rose by fostering, or donating towards her care & training, please email us at info@boxerrescuequebec.com

A letter from Moe

Almost a year ago.....

It was Halloween day 2010. I’m in a small cage. There are other dogs around me. I can feel they are as scared as I am. The pound lady is really nice but she has a job to do. No one claimed me and they need to make space for the new ones so tomorrow I will get my wings.

Around lunch time the pound lady came in with another lady. Oh boy! She’s here for one of us! Will she pick me or the cute little black pug in the corner? He’s also scheduled to get his wings tomorrow. The pound lady takes a leash and opens my cage. YES! She picked me. We went outside, the ladies talked for a bit, we went for a short walk and then I went into the car with this new lady. Oh poor her! I smell so bad and there she is putting a warm jacket on me. It feels really nice. She does not seem to mind that I smell so bad because she petted me and kissed my head. She’s got tears in her eyes. I think she feels bad for the ones left behind. I gave her a big kiss and it worked. She’s smiling at me now.

A year later I’m still with the lady that picked me up she’s my foster mom. She tells me that if it wasn’t for the good people at Boxer Rescue Quebec and the nice lady (Carole) at the pound, I would not be this loving, happy boy I am today.

My foster mom tells me that one day I will get the best forever home. She tells me that I can stay here as long as it takes for the perfect home to come along. I don’t understand. I have food, treats, toys, beds, loving humans and foster brothers. What more can I ask for? When I get my forever home I know mom will cry for days ‘cause she loves me so much. Dad and my brothers will miss me like crazy but they will start all over again and help others like me that are about to get their wings.

I know I’m not easy to find a forever home for. I’m considered old. I think I’m between 6 and 8 years old and I have arthritis in my spine and hips but mom gives me medication every day, so I feel pretty good. I’m not a fan of kids. They move too fast, yell too much and it makes me nervous. And cats are not my best friends either but mom still tells me all the time that I’m her sweetheart. I like to cuddle on the sofa, go for walks and zoom around the yard.

My name is Moe and I’m proud to be a rescue boy. If you would like to be my forever home please give BRQ a shout :0)

Meet our darling Dreyken who has just arrived to BRQ! He really needs a foster home asap. He is handsome, loving - and well behaved!! We do not know why he was a stray, and we'll never know. Dreyken is 2yrs old, healthy, has just been neutered, up to date on vaccinations and dewormed. He is clean in the house, polite when meeting people. He is so gentle when taking a treat, he won't touch your fingers! Dreyken does pull a lot on leash when he's excited, but when out walking on trails he calms down and does not pull at all. He can be dominant with some dogs and has not been tested with cats. If you can help by fostering Dreyken temporarily or if you are interested in adopting Dreyken, please contact info@boxerrescuequebec.com. Thanks!!
