Well - what can we say about our darling Lady? She is just the best! And we have had a long time here at BRQ to get to know her and know how right we are. Lady has been fostered with us for 10 months now. You see, she was rescued from a puppy mill here in Quebec last October by the SPCA and Humane Society - it was on the national news, 160 dogs were seized and taken out of deplorable conditions. You can see footage here and here.

So for the last 9 months the rescue was not allowed to adopt her out until the puppy mill owner went through the court system and was found guilty or released her dogs to the SPCA (here in Qc, dogs are considered "property" like a pair of shoes or a car etc....) She was pleading not guilty - if you watch the footage you can see this is absurd! Long story short, the puppy mill owner finally released custody of all the dogs and Lady is finally free to be adopted.

Lady was skin and bones when we got her. She had open wounds that were not treated. She was infested with parasites, and she was starving. Thanks to her foster parents Robin and Gloria, and Stacey and Dan, and now Angela, she has really blossomed. Lady is now the healthy and bouncing boxer that she was meant to be! Lady has been vaccinated, dewormed, heartworm tested and spayed. At her check up, the vet noticed that she has a grade 3 heart murmur. This does not affect her one bit and she does not need medication. She will need it to be checked at yearly vet visits.

She is apprx 3-4 yrs old, very good with children - has been exposed to many of all ages. Lady is crate trained. She is not good with all other dogs but this is being worked on with success - she now likes small dogs and some large dogs. She is housetrained. Lady pulls on leash but can be trained as she is very motivated by treats! Note that this dog is a sharp as a whip - she can learn anything! She is looking for a home where she will be a real part of the family. She really adores being around people.

Lady is great in the car. She loves chewing on bones. Her foster parents give her a Kong full of peanut butter each night as a bedtime treat - so be warned that her new family will have to keep up such traditions! After all that Lady has lived through, she deserves to be spoiled and made extra comfortable!

Update from Lady's foster mom - Sept. 16 -

Lady is wonderful! She is very happy to hang out with the little dogs in the area and doesn't have a reaction to cats other than to sniff. She is not aggressive towards the larger dogs but will growl if they come at her too fast. We are working on that daily.

She loves to be around her people, but if you ask her to "stay" or tell her to "go to her crate", she will and then wait for you to let her come back to your side.

An added bonus is that Lady is quiet. She only barks when you come home, two short "hellos!" and she is done. Just enough to let you know she is there.

Walking on the leash is improving daily! She is now able to heel and stop without a problem. She loves to sniff her way along the walk and will greet anyone passing by if they stop to say hi.

Fetch is not her favourite activity but running is. She will run if out on a leash or with you if you are intersted in going for a jog.

Lady is not a chewer so your shoes are safe! She loves her kong and soft toys, both she will bring them to you with pride. A nice treat before leaving for work is some peanut butter in the kong with her kibble, this is also nice before bed.

For those of you who do not like to have the dog on the furniture you're in luck, she only goes if invited. Once she is used to it she may just go, but if you ask her to get off she does with no problem. You are also able to take away her food and pet her while she eats.

Lady is a great dog. She can be as calm as you need her to be or as playful as you allow. She is great at reading your mood and matches it.
